Our Server:
Starting at the begining -- this server is running on SME 7.4, a complete Linux server that you can download from contribs.org. Out of the box it provides a webserver, a mail server, file and print sharing for local networks, a secure gateway and a VPN server. Management is performed through a straight forward web interface, although there is a well documented command line interface that allows much more ganular customization if you need it. There are many "contributions" that extend the funcionality of the server. I have added the following contributions to meet my needs:
- Webshares to make files available to clients
- User remote access to manage remote access for specific users
- User panels to allow users to conrol thier own settings (email away messages etc.)
- AWstats for web server usage logs
- A blacklist/whitelist manager for spamassasin
I have added a couple of other packages to the server, but as it is publicly accessible there is no point in making life too easy for the curious.
This software is the foundation of the Spitfire's Cyberlocked® sever
In this case the server is running on a Dell 2100 server with mirrored hard drives and 2GB of RAM.
Our CMS (Content Management System)
The CMS system is CMS madesimple, which is available at cmsmadesimple.org, like SME 7.4 this is a fully functional product out of the box, but has many modules that you can install to add the functionality you need.
Not being a designer I decided to use one of the rather spiffy themes avaialble for CMS made simple, many of the these themes are provided as a simple XML file that you upload to your server and activate using the theme manager module.
Added Modules
I slected the following modules to add to CMS madesimple:
- Forums
- Form Browser
- Form Builder
- Page Block
- Podcast Manager
- Captuura
- Questions
- Sitemap
